DC Universe Online: Preview

A few months ago, DC Universe graced the PS3 and the PC to create the biggest and baddest superhero online RPG made thus far. DCU Online is a unique RPG that suits you up in tights and unleashes you into the universe to either help save it, or help destroy it. Here is a vid to give you a gist on what the game is about. Warning: epicness ensues!

I told you it would be epic! So here is the deal. You suit up as a super powered being that has a few set powers like super speed, strength, flight, ect. In the beginning you choose to be either good or evil. As you traverse through the story you get to come in contact with the heroes and villains of this universe. You get to make the choice to save the world, or eventually destroy it. Cool huh? Here is a video to show off some game play.

The game also offers a massive multi-player function, which puts you against multiple created fighters to go to war on the streets and in the skies. DCUO is out now in stores for the PS3 and PC. Go get it!

Pokemon Black and White sells 2 million copies in 2 weeks

The Pokemon epidemic has yet again hit the United States in rare form. The newest Pokemon duo, Black and White, cleared more than 2 million copies just 48 hours after it's march 6th release. this is just 3 million shy of the amazing record breaking 5 million copies sold in japan.

This new Pokemon offers the same dynamics with some good improvements. There is a new rotation battle that offers a new 3 on 3 battle, graphics have been slightly improved, new mechanics have been introduced to enhance the fun of the game play and there have been an additional 150 Pokemon added which brings the count to a whopping 649 pokemon. Don't believe me? Here they all are.

Since I haven't played Pokemon in some years, I will not be getting the new versions, but I like to keep up with the new creatures, especially the all powerful and very special ones. Blame it on that little poke fan in me that just won't die.

WWE All Stars: Demo Review

The demo for the new WWE All Stars game was just released for the Xbox. I quickly downloaded it and commenced in playing. I am indeed a wrestling fan and have played all of the WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw games since the beginning. Smackdown plays like a true wrestling game and I was expecting the same level of game play. Instead, I got something so much worse.

The demo allows for you to play as either Rey Mysterio or The Ultimate Warrior, an odd combination indeed. The game play is the definition of "suspension of reality". Overly muscled avatars that is in no way represent the real wrestlers past or present, combination sequences that scream Marvel Vs. Capcom and each finisher is very exaggerated and over done. I couldn't get a grasp of the button configuration and lost horribly.

I had high hopes for this game when I first heard of it and thought it would be a fun adaptation of SvR (Smackdown vs. Raw). But needless to say that after one match, the demo got deleted. There is another adaptation game out there called Legends of Wrestlemania. I took that way more serious than this piece of...well...crap. Here is a vid to show what I am talking about.

No More Heroes????

No i'm not talking about the actual game No More Heroes. I'm talking about the heroes of guitars, the heroes of D.Jing...yeah i'm pretty sure you haven't gotten it yet. Both Guitar Hero and D.J Hero franchises have suffered a huge hit, causing the end of both games.

Say it isn't so! Yes boys and girls the button mashing, highly competitive music franchise has come to a blaring halt after it's main studio Activision decided to cease funding toward the franchise in order to focus on their other profitable games, such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.

You can read more about it here.

It's just not fair....I was just starting to get into the swing of both hero games and now they won't continue it. I am a fan of Call of duty as well, but I was not too impressed with it's recent title Black Ops. For all intensive purposes, the game was too short! In comparison, I was floored by D.J Hero 2 and loved spinning those new and great sounding tracks. I guess music is really dying these days, huh?

Hey MK...What about XBox??

Word circulated in late February that the Mortal Kombat demo would be stepping onto the Playstation 3 network in early to mid march. Joy rang out amongst the die hard fans who have been waiting to get their hands on a solid demo of the blood thirsty game. Yet in the midst of this joy, there was a problem, a very huge problem: There was no announcement on when the demo for X-Box 360 would be available, nothing at all!

This is not the first time the 360 has been left out of extra goodness concerning this game. NetherRealm studios, which houses and created the game, confirmed that Kratos, the main protagonist of the "God of War" franchise would become a playable character exclusively for the Playstation 3. Yet again, Playstation users rejoiced hard while Xbox fans were left wondering "Where is our special character?"

There are only 3 weeks left until the game is released for both systems, but so far the score is 2-0 and the Playstation is winning. I'm guessing that the good folks at Sony tossed a few extra dollars in to get the extra perks. I'm still holding on to hope that Nether Realm is holding out on the details for the XBox version for a later date. I don't know what the issue is, but I want a special character and I want a demo for my 360...at least a week before the actual game comes out!

Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (episode 1)

Sonic is back, and in 2D form!

Sonic the Hedgehog is the flagship franchise of Sega and has been since the early 90's. In the past 20 years of sonic gaming, we have seen the little blue speed demon obtain sidekicks, transform into his golden charged up form: Super Sonic, traversed into the 3D realm, race, fight in boxing rings, race on speed boards, go into outer space, cross into different games, transform into other beastly versions of himself, perform at the OLYMPICS and miserably fail at half of it all. I am a sure fan of Sonic..but if programmers make him race in any contraption besides using his own feet, they cheat him and they cheat the franchise, and they knew that. Therefore, Sonic 4 was created to take it all back to the original roots of the game, which is to kill robots, gather emeralds, speed through crazy loops and blow up Robotnik.

The game play brought back so many years of memories from the first and second Sonic games. It was simple, to the point, and flat out awesome. The game has returned to the 2D field with some 3D improvements making it visually striking. The special levels had returned to it's spinning and twisting annoyingness, which I was willing to put my pisssed off feelings aside for the sake of nostalgia. Sonic moved rather slow and it takes some time to gather some speed, but with such add ons like the dash jump, it helps to get things moving along quickly. Levels are not long at all, in comparison to some of the 3D sonic games which takes up to about 10-15 minutes to beat. The final bosses of each level are homages to the first sonic game with some crazy modifications. Here are some vids to show what I am talking about.

Sonic 4 Boss Battle

Note that this is not a remake of Sonic 1. I feel that this was just a way to anchor fans back in and get them ready for episode 2, which has an undetermined release date. Sonic 4 has it's flaws and most fans (like myself) wish that there was more offered in game play that made it even more worth the 1600 microsoft points we spent (roughly $20). But it does the job of causing nostalgia and makes for very fun game play. I hope that the second episode make a bigger impression than the first one did.

Character of Recognition: Scorpion

Any one who has played Mortal Kombat knows about the ninja specter Scorpion. If you don't know, here is a recap of his history.

Ever since I played Mortal Kombat 1, Scorpion has been my favorite character. I used to chalk it up to liking his story of revenge for the murder of his family and clan, the Shirai Ryu. The actual reason I like him is because his fatality was the easiest to perform which was hold block and press up twice. Over the years I continued to harness my skills through Scorpion even though his moves got harder to do. I can't explain after all these years why this ghost ninja is still my favorite, except that I see bits of myself in him.

No I am not evil nor a ghost and i'm pretty sure I have not been to the nether realm, or in reality case, Hell. But his motives to destroy is through the act of pain, anger and remorse for losing his wife and children and his entire clan. Before becoming an evil creature, there was Hanzo Hasashi, a devoted father, husband and clansman to the Shirai Ryu. Being a ninja means spilling blood so there would have to be killing involved. To come and find your beloved family dead and your whole clan dead and then to be killed by the same man would make you want to extract horrible vengeance if given the chance. (In later history, Quan Chi was said to have killed them and not Sub Zero, but Sub killed Scorpion) I feel the same way in that if anyone harmed my family, especially my younger brother or son, I would turn rouge and take revenge hard core. I would hope that I wouldn't turn evil, but I would take the opportunity of a second life if given the chance.

All in all, I continue to use Scorpion in a lot of my battles and I win with extreme prejudice. I have taken the time to learn his combos and master his martial art styles. studying can make any gamer immortal, but there is just something about using the favorite that makes it all worth while. Little known fact: Scorpion is also the favorite of MK creator Ed Boon!

Asian guy beats Super Mario 3 in 11 Minutes

Real or Hoax? I still can't beat the game let alone in 11 minutes! You decide!

Review: Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Fans have been waiting an insurable amount of time for the release of the next Marvel Vs. Capcom game, eleven years to be exact. Finally after many game console generations have passed, MvC3 makes it's way onto the scene for the X-Box 360, PC and the Playstation 3. I have had the game for almost a month and I am greatly pleased by the game play, graphics and the nostalgia it offers.

It seems that Doctor Doom (Fantastic 4: Marvel), Albert Wesker (Resident Evil: Capcom) and various villains have joined up to try and take over the world, causing chaos between the two separate worlds. Their actions awaken the Earth eater Galactus (Fantastic Four: Marvel), who has set his sights on earth and is ready to feast. It is up to the heroes (and a few villians) of both worlds to come together and fight off this monstrous threat.

First off, the game play is fantastic and easy to learn. masters of MvC2 will enjoy the refresher while newbies can pick up the combo system with ease. The graphics, which looks like a bit of cell shading totally fits and gives off a nice comic book look. Each character comes equipped with their own super move, and in team play the hyper combo finish is back with a vengeance! Most of the characters are easy to control and have move sets that can lead into dangerous combos, while some are not even worth playing. As with each fighting game, different strokes for different folks.

The final fight is INSANE to say the least. First you have to battle carbon copies of two random villains, mostly Akuma (Street Fighter: Capcom) and Dormammu (Marvel: Dr. Strange). After you beat them, you have to fight a larger than life Galactus. This is the challenging part because you fight him in two stages. The first half of his life he attacks with brute strength, the second he attacks with devastating energy blasts. Beating him is a great challenge and will indeed cause frustration and swearing. Each player's ending is unique and correlates with the destruction of Galactus.

Overall..it is a fantastic game that many will enjoy. Go get it!

Mortal Kombat: Preview

It wasn't too long ago that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe became available to the general public, and it wasn't too long after that the hardcore fans yelled Blasphemy. The gore, intensity, and mind blowing brutality that made the Mortal franchise what it was had faded and instead been replaced by "heroic brutalities" and lack luster fatalities that would cause an elderly woman to giggle to herself. For goodness sakes it was T (Teen) rated! Ed Boon, creator of Mortal Kombat wanted to have his franchise and the DC franchise fight it out. After the game's flop, Ed promised that he would bring back Mortal Kombat to it's sadistic roots and and make it worthy of the M (Mature) rating again. We had no idea how right he was.

Being released next month is the newest installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Simply titled "Mortal Kombat", this game returns to its original roots of bloody disgusting gruesomeness and 2D game play. The story takes place back in timeline of the first Mortal Kombat game in an alternate reality where Raiden has been made aware of all future events. The main story will cover Mortal Kombat 1-3 time wise, hinting that every character that was introduced in that time frame will be in the game. There will be a lot of continuities as well of some very noticeable differences such as alterations to characters and so on. In an interview at 2010's E3 conference, Ed boon discusses the game play dynamics which includes a new team versus mode that is reminiscent of Marvel vs. Capcom, the new combo systems and the graphic display of inner organs.

We will also see the return of fan favorites "Test your Might", "Test your Sight" and the new "Test yourLuck" which tests your slot luck while inflicting violent and funny effects to your chosen character. We will also see the return of blood splattering fatalities that will make any fan forget that there was a DC Universe. If any of this does not excite you, check out these two videos of the awesome features!

Mortal Kombat will be available April 19th and the official demo is availible now on the PSN and shortly for X-box Live.
