Mortal Kombat: Preview

It wasn't too long ago that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe became available to the general public, and it wasn't too long after that the hardcore fans yelled Blasphemy. The gore, intensity, and mind blowing brutality that made the Mortal franchise what it was had faded and instead been replaced by "heroic brutalities" and lack luster fatalities that would cause an elderly woman to giggle to herself. For goodness sakes it was T (Teen) rated! Ed Boon, creator of Mortal Kombat wanted to have his franchise and the DC franchise fight it out. After the game's flop, Ed promised that he would bring back Mortal Kombat to it's sadistic roots and and make it worthy of the M (Mature) rating again. We had no idea how right he was.

Being released next month is the newest installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Simply titled "Mortal Kombat", this game returns to its original roots of bloody disgusting gruesomeness and 2D game play. The story takes place back in timeline of the first Mortal Kombat game in an alternate reality where Raiden has been made aware of all future events. The main story will cover Mortal Kombat 1-3 time wise, hinting that every character that was introduced in that time frame will be in the game. There will be a lot of continuities as well of some very noticeable differences such as alterations to characters and so on. In an interview at 2010's E3 conference, Ed boon discusses the game play dynamics which includes a new team versus mode that is reminiscent of Marvel vs. Capcom, the new combo systems and the graphic display of inner organs.

We will also see the return of fan favorites "Test your Might", "Test your Sight" and the new "Test yourLuck" which tests your slot luck while inflicting violent and funny effects to your chosen character. We will also see the return of blood splattering fatalities that will make any fan forget that there was a DC Universe. If any of this does not excite you, check out these two videos of the awesome features!

Mortal Kombat will be available April 19th and the official demo is availible now on the PSN and shortly for X-box Live.
