Character of Recognition: Scorpion

Any one who has played Mortal Kombat knows about the ninja specter Scorpion. If you don't know, here is a recap of his history.

Ever since I played Mortal Kombat 1, Scorpion has been my favorite character. I used to chalk it up to liking his story of revenge for the murder of his family and clan, the Shirai Ryu. The actual reason I like him is because his fatality was the easiest to perform which was hold block and press up twice. Over the years I continued to harness my skills through Scorpion even though his moves got harder to do. I can't explain after all these years why this ghost ninja is still my favorite, except that I see bits of myself in him.

No I am not evil nor a ghost and i'm pretty sure I have not been to the nether realm, or in reality case, Hell. But his motives to destroy is through the act of pain, anger and remorse for losing his wife and children and his entire clan. Before becoming an evil creature, there was Hanzo Hasashi, a devoted father, husband and clansman to the Shirai Ryu. Being a ninja means spilling blood so there would have to be killing involved. To come and find your beloved family dead and your whole clan dead and then to be killed by the same man would make you want to extract horrible vengeance if given the chance. (In later history, Quan Chi was said to have killed them and not Sub Zero, but Sub killed Scorpion) I feel the same way in that if anyone harmed my family, especially my younger brother or son, I would turn rouge and take revenge hard core. I would hope that I wouldn't turn evil, but I would take the opportunity of a second life if given the chance.

All in all, I continue to use Scorpion in a lot of my battles and I win with extreme prejudice. I have taken the time to learn his combos and master his martial art styles. studying can make any gamer immortal, but there is just something about using the favorite that makes it all worth while. Little known fact: Scorpion is also the favorite of MK creator Ed Boon!
